Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

FUE

In preparation for a FUE, the back of the head is shaved. Under a local anaesthetic the individual hairs are carefully loosened with a very sensitive instrument and then removed.

Advantage of this method:

This is a simple and cost effective method for the operator; the personnel requirement is low as the individual hair sections do not have to be prepared anymore.

Disadvantage of this method:

While removing the root, the direction of the follicle cannot be established and therefore man valuable follicles are destroyed. Thus the rate of injury increases by between 20% and 30%. It also means that by far more hairs have to be removed than required and it would be really recommendable to take care and look after this valuable asset extremely well. There will be lots of small scars at the area of hair removal, which can result in cysts. This method and the time that is required for extraction are extremely stressful for the patient.

The treatment marks cannot really be covered up, due to the necessary shaving that is required of the relevant area to be treated. Assuming that this method does not leave any scars is a misapprehension, only the scars look different. Instead of a fine line, as is usual with the traditional method, using this new technology of FUE, provided the healing process progresses without complications, will leave many little circular scars.
